I loved the drive from Southampton to Durdle Door, the expansive landscape and some spectacular tree lines, it isn’t just the destination which is amazing but the journey too! For those just looking at visiting Durdle Door, there is a large car park through the Holiday Park which can be found using this postcode, BH20 5PU. From there it is a 5-10 minute walk down to the water.
For those wanting to see more of the iconic places along Dorset’s coastline, you can either park at Durdle Door and walk along to Lulworth Cove or the other way round.
What is there to do?
Durdle Door is a truly iconic landmark on Dorset’s coastline and is a perfect place to pull your camera out and snap some shots. The beach overlooking Durdle Door is a perfect place to relax, have a picnic and enjoy the water. For those wanting to stretch their legs, both directions offer spectacular sights and you can visit places like Lulworth Cove.
There are some caves at the base of the chalk cliffs which can be cool to look into, but make sure you don’t enter them as cliff falls are common.
Be Safe
On your walk down to Durdle Door from the Holiday Park it can be steep in places so make sure you take care and wear appropriate footwear.
There is no lifeguard on duty at Durdle Door so make sure you supervise children at all times as there is a strong under-tow, make sure you stay away from Durdle Door itself.
